Standalone Office 365 scenario just doesn’t allow you to control your OWA URL, like an off-site Exchange or hybrid scenario would. Instead of your old, friendly URL, which has been used ever since, you end up with http://portal.microsoft.com as the universal entering point for the whole Office 365 suite. Once logged in you need to choose where to proceed – Mail, SharePoint, OneDrive…
End users likely use just (OWA) e-mail most of the time.
The direct URL for Exchange Online (Office 365) is: mail.office365.com
Slightly better, you get to skip a step where user have to choose what to open and he / she gets into the mailbox directly.
However, if you are in control of your DNS records, you can do even better.
Create a CNAME for mail.yourdomain.com which points to mail.office365.com
Now your end users can access their Outlook Web App in Office 365 using http://mail.yourdomain.com because it automatically redirects to https://mail.office365.com.
This is the easiest way of providing your users with a friendly Office 365 OWA URL. Please note there are very different approaches for hybrid scenarios.
